The drawing was held October 9 over the noon hour on 1040 WHO Radio's The Big Show, to culminate National 4-H Week.

When asked how it feels to win, Griffieon responded, “It’s unbelievable. I never thought I might win. I’ve won a pie here and there, but not anything this big. With all of the people that bought tickets, I can’t believe I’m that lucky.”

Griffieon first found out about his winning when Phil Heckman, Polk County 4-H Youth Coordinator, called him. Within minutes everyone was calling him. Griffieon said, “I think everyone was listening but me! My phone hasn’t stopped ringing yet.”

“We’re proud to have Craig win the car. The Griffieon family has been very active in 4-H and are strong 4-H supporters,” said Heckman.

The Iowa 4-H Foundation partnered with Wilson Toyota of Ames to give away the “Clover Corolla,” which sported a special 4-H clover wrap from Sign Pro of Ames.

“Raising more than $40,000 for the Iowa 4-H program, this raffle has been a creative way to raise funds for 4-H, despite budget cuts that are impacting the 4-H program statewide,” said Shelly Greving, marketing coordinator for the Iowa 4-H Foundation.

The car had been on display and raffle tickets were available at more than 30 county fairs and events throughout the state since late June. Greving said 8,500 tickets had been sold. Griffieon had purchased the winning ticket at the Iowa State Fair.
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4472385039033132642.post-52701384824663639082009-07-17T10:05:00.005-05:002009-07-17T10:08:42.746-05:00Attention Counties: The stakes just got better!
Counties now have the chance to raise even more money for your 4-H program.

Here’s the deal: The three counties that raise the most money (gross sales) will be awarded with extra cash.

First place - $250

Second place - $100

Third place - $50

These prizes will even be awarded to counties without an established foundation. Counties with a foundation receive 50% of the net sales and counties without receive 25%. Even if your county hasn’t requested the Clover Corolla to come to your community, there is still time. We’re pretty well booked in July and August but September and October are somewhat open (see the schedule below). We encourage counties to sell tickets on their own, even if the car doesn’t travel to an event. Remember that ticket sales continue until the beginning of October.

Email us at 4hraffle@gmail.com if you would like to request the car to come to your community or to sell tickets on your own.
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4472385039033132642.post-54753228071723438702009-07-17T09:53:00.004-05:002009-07-17T10:04:53.112-05:00New Events ScheduledA few more counties have agreed to host the Clover Corolla! The Iowa 4-H Clover Corolla will be coming to Iowa at the beginning of June and will travel across the entire state raising funds for Iowa 4-H and promoting the Iowa 4-H program. Your county can request the Clover Corolla to visit an event and receive up to 50% of the funds raised from tickets sold at that event and in the county. Story County raised $5,000 last year and received nearly $2,500 for their county endowment by holding two events and selling tickets in their office!

A 2009 Toyota Corolla, the number one car sold in the world, will be raffled off to raise money for 4-H programs across the state of Iowa. All funds raised will support county and statewide 4-H educational programs. Counties are encouraged to apply to have the Clover Corolla come to their County Fair and other local events. Counties may also choose to sell tickets in the county office with the help of their 4-H Foundation or 4-H volunteers. The 4-H Foundation will coordinate with County Extension offices and County 4-H Foundations to set up and execute a raffle along with a 4-H promotion. County volunteers (over the age of 18) may help sell raffle tickets for the Clover Corolla. An Iowa 4-H Foundation staff person will deliver the Clover Corolla and provide support as needed. The 4-H county hosting the Clover Corolla must pay all expenses for the vehicle to be displayed.
